Be A Good Neighbor, Keep The Sidewalk Clear

Be a Good Neighbor, Keep the Sidewalks Clear.

A sidewalk provides safe access for pedestrians to homes, stores, parks, schools, and other places. They provide many benefits including safety, mobility, and a walkable community. For some, sidewalks are their only routes to get from point A to point B.

When sidewalks have obstructions, such as trash cans, signs, shrubs, and automobiles, it makes it challenging for pedestrians to get around. And it could make it impossible for individuals who use mobility devices to maneuver around the obstacle.

In Lincoln City, city code requires a minimum of five (5) feet of sidewalk clear of both permanent and temporary obstructions (12.04.070 Unobstructed sidewalks).

So be a good neighbor. When putting trash cans out for collection, make sure there is room to get around them. For trees and shrubs, trim back branches so that they are not protruding onto the sidewalk. If they are hanging over the sidewalk make sure there is at least six and a half feet of vertical clearance. And cars belong on the roadway, not on sidewalks. When parking an automobile, make sure the nose of the car does not protrude onto the sidewalk, preventing people from getting past the car. And never park on a sidewalk!
